1930s Semi Detatched Renovation

Full 1930s Three-Bedroom Semi-Detached House Renovation

This project involved the complete renovation and modernisation of a neglected 1930s three-bedroom semi-detached property. When work began, the house had been left vacant and was without a functioning heating system, mains gas supply, or mains water, requiring a full strip-out and extensive structural and service upgrades throughout.

Our aim was to transform the property into a warm, character-filled family home while retaining the charm and architectural features that make 1930s houses so desirable.

The renovation began with a full internal demolition, removing outdated fixtures, finishes, and non-structural walls to create a more practical layout. Structural alterations were carried out to open up the ground floor, improving the flow between living spaces while maintaining the integrity of the building. Temporary supports were installed before steelwork and structural reinforcements were completed.

With the property stripped back to its original fabric, extensive repair works were undertaken, including floor repairs, wall restoration, ceiling reconstruction, and upgrades to the existing timber structure where required. Original brickwork was carefully exposed and incorporated into the final design to preserve the character of the home.

A complete first-fix installation followed, including all new plumbing, heating, electrical systems, and mains service connections. The property received a modern central heating system, full rewire, upgraded insulation, and all associated works required to bring the house up to modern standards.

Particular attention was given to blending contemporary finishes with traditional features. Original fireplaces were restored and enhanced, exposed brick details were retained, and natural timber elements were incorporated throughout the property to create warmth and character. The kitchen was redesigned around a feature brick chimney breast, while the bathrooms were fully remodelled with modern fixtures and finishes.

Externally, the property also underwent a significant transformation, with improvements to the frontage, driveway, boundary walls, landscaping, and overall kerb appeal. The finished exterior now complements the extensive internal refurbishment and reflects the quality of the work carried out throughout the project.

The result is a complete transformation from a dated and uninhabitable house into a stylish, modern family home that respects its 1930s heritage while offering all the comfort and efficiency of contemporary living.
